Professional standards

The PEBA Code of Conduct

Every certified member signs this code. Stables can file a concern about any booking, and the association reviews each one against these standards.

Article 1

Horse Welfare First

The horse's comfort and safety come before speed or appearance.

  • Never braid a horse showing signs of distress; notify the trainer immediately.
  • Use tension that is secure without pulling on the crest.
  • Report injuries, heat or swelling observed while braiding.

Article 2

Punctuality and Reliability

A committed booking is a professional obligation.

  • Complete every horse before its stated completion deadline.
  • Communicate delays to the stable before, not after, a deadline is missed.
  • Never overbook beyond your declared nightly capacity.

Article 3

Barn Conduct

Braiders work in other professionals' barns and must respect them.

  • Follow each stable's rules for aisles, lights and stall doors.
  • Leave stalls and aisles as you found them.
  • Keep work areas free of bands, thread and tools.

Article 4

Workmanship

Every braid should reflect PEBA certification standards.

  • Match braid count and size to the horse's neck and discipline.
  • Document completion with a photo when requested.
  • Redo substandard braids at no charge.

Article 5

Integrity

Honesty with clients, colleagues and the association.

  • Represent only credentials you currently hold.
  • Price services transparently before the job.
  • Disclose conflicts of interest when serving as an evaluator.
